Texas and Louisiana residents should prepare for active weather as a cold front approaches, bringing possible storms and heavy rain. Conditions are expected to worsen Monday evening into Tuesday. Key safety advisories include increased winds and flooding risks, which could impact traffic, particularly along major highways such as I-10.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Lake Charles, gusty southerly winds will prevail with speeds of 25-35 mph, posing a hazard to high-profile vehicles and unsecured objects. A wind advisory remains in effect until late Tuesday. Meanwhile, coastal areas from Orange County, Texas, to lower St. Mary Parishes in Louisiana are under a Coastal Flood Warning due to high tides and storm surge. This warning is in effect from Monday afternoon through early Tuesday.

Forecasters are emphasizing the risk of severe thunderstorms developing overnight in southeast Texas and spreading into central Louisiana by Tuesday morning. These storms could produce damaging wind gusts, frequent lightning, and localized flooding, impacting poorly drained urban areas. There remains a low risk (level 2 out of 4) of excessive rainfall, urging residents to avoid driving on roads at risk of flooding.

Looking ahead, potential Tropical Cyclone 18 is looming over the western Caribbean Sea and could strengthen as it moves toward the Gulf of Mexico later this week. Residents should monitor for updates as this system could become a more serious threat by mid-week.
