Maxwell AFB conducts emergency response exercise Oct. 17 > Maxwell Air Force Base > Advertisement

The 42nd Air Base Wing is scheduled to conduct an emergency response exercise on October 17, 2024 between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. at Maxwell Air Force Base and Gunter Annex.

The exercise includes multiple training scenarios to prepare service members to respond to emergency situations. Members will be on site during exercise scenarios to ensure public safety.

Increased noise and activity may be heard, including sound effects, simulated gunshots, messages from the Giant Voice system, sirens, and sounds of emergency vehicles. Visual effects such as smoke may also occur.

The following measures have been implemented to reduce potential disruption to local communities and regular base operations:

  • The exercise may result in an increase in traffic around the base or delays in access to the base, including temporary closures of inbound and outbound gates. However, the gates are only interrupted briefly to demonstrate performance before normal operations resume.
  • The Base Exchange, Shoppette, Commissary, Maxwell Credit Union and Gunter Pharmacy will not be affected by any part of the exercise.
  • Maxwell and Gunter Child Development Centers, Maxwell and Gunter Youth Centers, Gunter School Age Centers, and DODEA Elementary and Middle Schools are exempt from all portions of the exercise. This also includes dropping off and picking up the children.
  • Air University students, faculty and distinguished visitors at Maxwell AFB & Gunter Annex are exempt from all exercise segments. This exception applies to travel in vehicles, visits to buildings or facilities and exercise outdoors.

In the event of a real situation, the exercise will be canceled and the base will be notified through official correspondence and the AtHoc notification system.
