Texas A&M's hopes of competing in the first 12-team College Football Playoff are in jeopardy after Saturday night's upset of South Carolina.

South Carolina won 44-20 against the visiting Aggies, handing No. 10 Texas A&M its first loss to an SEC opponent.

South Carolina's win over Texas A&M is no surprise. This team has been knocking on the door all season.
South Carolina beats Texas A&M by 24? Yeah, I didn't see that coming

The loss ended Texas A&M's undefeated 5-0 streak against conference opponents. There are now no SEC teams that have suffered a loss to a conference opponent this season.

Texas A&M's defense struggled to limit South Carolina as the Gamecocks finished the game with 530 total yards, including 288 on the ground.

The loss led to fan criticism of Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko, just a week after he received praise for his team's performance against conference rival LSU.

South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer had a different ending Saturday night when he was swarmed by fans who stormed the field after the win.

The win was the Gamecocks' first Ranking victory under Beamer since the program's upsets against Tennessee and Clemson at the end of the 2022 season.

I don't think many people are surprised that South Carolina showed up, but I still think this is one of the most underrated teams in the country.
A few games away from beating Alabama and LSU and now a decisive win over A&M.

Texas A&M quarterback Marcel Reed went 18 of 28 for 206 yards, a touchdown and an interception in the loss. After his passing touchdown at the end of the second quarter, the Aggies failed to reach the end zone for the remainder of the game. Amari Daniels recorded 13 carries for 83 yards and a touchdown.

South Carolina signalman LaNorris Sellers, meanwhile, went 13 of 27 for 244 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions, leading the Gamecocks to victory. Joshua Simon had four catches for 132 yards and two touchdowns, while Tonka Hemingway, Dylan Stewart and TJ Sanders recorded sacks.

The biggest matchup of the Texas A&M season is still to come. The Aggies are scheduled to face the rival Texas Longhorns in the season finale on November 30th.

The first CFP rankings of the season will be released on Tuesday. The Aggies hope to beat New Mexico State, Auburn and No. 6 Texas to enforce their overall offer.
