Mike Johnson doesn't want to hear about Trump talking about Arnold Palmer's manhood

House Speaker Mike Johnson doesn't want to hear from Arnold Palmer's Johnson. The Republican bristled when confronted about Donald Trump's recent rally comments in which he told a story about Palmer's “unbelievable” penis size.

During an appearance on CNN State of the Union, Host Jake Tapper asked about Johnson's reaction to Trump and said that when other golfers showered praise on the links legend, “they said, 'Oh my God, that's unbelievable.'” Trump also described Palmer as “a man.”

Tapper pointed to an Associated Press article that began with the following line: “Donald Trump's campaign indicated he would begin previewing his closing arguments Saturday evening, barely two weeks before Election Day.” But the former president opened his rally with a detailed story about Arnold Palmer and at one point even praised the late, legendary golfer’s genitals.”

“You’re talking about substantive issues,” Tapper told Johnson. “Is this really the final message you want voters to get from Donald Trump’s stories about Arnold Palmer’s penis?”

The speaker tried to dodge the question, saying, “I think the headline I read yesterday about the rally in Pennsylvania was the big question.” And it's the question that Kamala Harris couldn't or wouldn't answer. And that is: Are you better off now than you were under the Trump administration four years ago?” (Unsurprisingly, this headline was in a Fox News article that didn't even mention the penis comments, even though it was in an article was the case in the station's sports vertical.)

But Tapper didn't let Johnson block him. “I'm sure you think a policy debate would be better than a personality debate, but if President Biden had gone on stage and talked about the size of a pro golfer's penis, I think you would be on this show right now “They say they were shocked and horrified and would suggest that this was evidence of his cognitive decline,” the presenter said.

Then Johnson replied testily: “Jake, you seem to like that sentence a lot. Let me tell you, Donald Trump is holding rallies all over the country to say something.” (Yes, he certainly says that something.)

On trend

The two then got into a back and forth until Johnson snapped, “I'll take care of it.” Let me answer, okay? Don't say it again. We don't have to say it. I understand it. At a rally there are lines. When President Trump is at a rally, he sometimes speaks for two hours. They question his stamina, his mental acuity. Joe Biden couldn't do that for five minutes…So (Trump) is having fun at the rallies. He says things that are off the cuff. But let me tell you, I was at these events. I've been to these arenas and people have a great time there. So you can, you know, pick a few words or lines from a two-hour event.”

While some people certainly have a “great time” at a Trump rally, other attendees leave the former president's events before he finishes his speech. As a recent rally attendee said The Washington Postshe decided to leave early because of “the insults and because she was only an hour late.”
