'Modern Family's' Adam DeVine recalls the awkward first day of filming with Sofia Vergara and the firm message he received from one of the EPs

Even though it's been four years Modern family came to an end and is considered one of the best sitcoms of all time, fans still aren't over the potential that Adam DeVine's Andy Bailey could have had. If the Pitch perfect When Star joined the ABC sitcom in the fifth season as Jay and Gloria's male nanny, or “Manny,” and later as a realtor's assistant, he quickly became a fan favorite, especially when he was dating Haley. However, it wasn't always that easy, as DeVine had an awkward first day of filming with Sofia Vergara that came with a stern note of an EP.

DeVine repeated himself Modern family for seasons 5-7 and made a brief appearance in season 9. Even though it's been 11 years since his debut on the sitcom, he still vividly remembers how the experience began. He spoke with People about his time on the show and recalled what co-creator and executive producer Steve Levitan told him about the dialogue:

About the modern family. It was such a tightly planned show. The dialogue was super fast. I remember when they hired me, Steve Levitan, one of the creators and producers, he said, “We want you to be a breath of fresh air.” “You're coming in Season 5. Maybe you can improve a little bit and the people keep you on your toes.”
