Nebraska volleyball remains second in the latest AVCA poll

Nebraska volleyball remains at second place in the latest AVCA Top 25 rankings.

Despite clear conference foes Illinois and Iowa since the last poll, the Huskers remained at No. 2 in the AVCA Top 25 poll this week. NU trails Pittsburgh (14-0, 4-0 ACC) in the poll as the Panthers received all 61 first-place votes. The Huskers (14-1, 4-0 B1G) have not been ranked No. 1 since the Sept. 23 poll.

Nebraska remains at its highest spot in the AVCA rankings since its preseason ranking of No. 2. The Huskers reached a single first-place vote two weeks earlier by sweeping Stanford and Louisville before conference play began. The Cardinals are currently ranked No. 3 while Louisville is ranked No. 5.

Nebraska edged Illinois on the road in the Huskers' first road conference match of the year on Thursday night, while it beat border rival Iowa with a 3-0 win on Sunday at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. The Huskers have lost just one set in four Big Ten Conference games so far this season.

The Huskers have seven wins against teams in the current top 25 rankings. Nebraska's only loss of the season remains No. 23 SMU (8-3, 4-0 ACC), which dropped a spot in last week's poll. The Mustangs take on Pittsburgh in an ACC matchup on Wednesday night.

The Big Red have victories over three top-10 teams: Stanford, Louisville and No. 6 national opponent Creighton. The Bluejays remain in that spot for another week, tying their record for the highest ranking in program history. Nebraska still has three top-10 teams on the schedule: No. 3 Penn State, No. 9 Wisconsin and No. 10 Purdue. The Huskers welcome the Boilermakers to the Bob Devaney Sports Center on Friday.

The Big Ten Conference remains the premier conference for elite volleyball, with eight top-25 teams. The ACC and Big 12 each offer five programs, while the SEC has four.
