News, rumors, analysis for movements

9:57 a.m.: Cowboys owner Jerry Jones announced Tuesday morning that quarterback Dak Prescott will likely go on injured reserve because of a hamstring injury. That apparently isn't enough for Jones and Dallas to believe the season is over, as the Cowboys have reportedly made a deal to get some help.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Cowboys are acquiring wideout Jonathan Mingo from the Carolina Panthers. Here are the reported conditions, according to Schefter:

Dallas acquires: WR Jonathan Mingo, seventh-round pick
Carolina acquires: Fourth round pick

The years in which this selection will be made have not yet been announced.

Mingo, a second-round pick out of Ole Miss last season, played little role in the Panthers' poor offense. He has just 12 catches on 26 targets in nine games this season, with Bryce Young and Andy Dalton making up the Panthers' revolving door of quarterbacks. He has yet to catch a touchdown in his career.

If Detroit has a weakness, it's defense, and those problems were made worse when the Lions lost Aidan Hutchinson for the season. The Lions wasted no time at the deadline to address that deficiency, inking Cleveland to a deal for one of the best pass rushers available.

No, not Myles Garrett. But Detroit reportedly acquired veteran rusher Za'Darius Smith in a trade with the Browns for next to nothing.

Smith is in the midst of a rebound season. His five sacks are just half a sack below his total from a season ago, and it looks like he'll be better able to keep up with the production he showed from 2019 to 2022, when he averaged 12 with Green Bay and Minnesota sacks per season (not counting the 2021 season). in which he only played one game).
