A defensive coach compared Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen to Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes in comments to The Athletic's Dianna Russini, citing the freedom he is afforded at the line of scrimmage as well as his processing abilities:

“A defensive coach preparing for the game against the Bills gave Allen this perspective: 'He does more at the line of scrimmage, breaks through the scrum quicker, sees the play better and gets in and out. He takes care of the protective measures. Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes are probably the only other two quarterbacks to do that.”

Allen is enjoying a great start to 2024 and appears to be the early front-runner for NFL MVP honors. He completed 75 percent of his passes for 634 yards, seven touchdowns and no interceptions. Allen also rushed for 85 yards and two scores.

He put together those numbers despite turnovers on the offensive side, including the losses of wide receivers Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis and center Mitch Morse.

Allen is celebrating this success under the leadership of offensive coordinator Joe Brady, who replaced the fired Ken Dorsey midway through last season.

The Bills have gone 10-2 since Brady took over and are leading the NFL in scoring at 37.3 points per game. They did this despite not having any real superstars in the passing game.

The wealth is shared in Buffalo, with 10 players catching passes in last Monday's 47-10 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Only one player, Khalil Shakir, has recorded more than eight catches this season. Also of note, Shakir caught all 14 of his targets for 168 yards and two scores.

The Bills are off to a 3-0 start and are one of the five remaining undefeated teams in the NFL. A narrow 34-28 victory over the Arizona Cardinals began the year before stunning victories against the Miami Dolphins (31-10) and the Jaguars.

Next up is a tough road battle against the Baltimore Ravens, the best NFL team from last year's regular season. Kickoff is scheduled for Sunday at 8:20 p.m. ET.
