After helping the Kansas City Chiefs improve to 7-0 with a 27-20 win over the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, star quarterback Patrick Mahomes was praised by an opposing coach for his ability to thrive under pressure produce.

The coach told The Athletic's Mike Sando that Mahomes' control of the offense, even while improvising, was a key reason for Kansas City's impressive winning streak.

“It takes a lot of effort to get everyone on the same page for the scramble drill,” the coach said. “The only people who can do that if you need it in an emergency are the veterans. You become slow and exhausted. Mahomes is a gladiator in the Coliseum and the Lions are after him.”

Mahomes completed 27 of his 38 passes for 262 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in Sunday's win. Overall, the Chiefs have won 13 straight games since last season, the team's second 13-game winning streak since Mahomes took over as starting quarterback.

The 2024 Chiefs are very different from previous versions of the team with Mahomes under center in that they don't just rely on outscoring their opponents with big offensive performances to earn victories. Kansas City has proven its resilience time and time again, leading many to believe it will achieve the first three-peat in modern NFL history.

Mahomes and the Chiefs will look to get to 8-0 when they face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Monday Night Football next week.
