NFL injury updates: Harbaugh, Jones, Gray

NFL injury updates: Harbaugh, Jones, Gray

The Chargers experienced a strange scare as head coach in today's win over division rival Broncos Jim Harbaugh left the field for a period of time due to an alleged “illness.” According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Harbaugh told reporters that he went to the locker room to deal with an episode of atrial flutter.

NFL's AJ Ross spoke with Harbaugh on CBS, who told her, “He's been dealing with cardiac arrhythmias…something he's been struggling with on and off for some time.” If that's the case, his employers were probably aware of it and led the team to develop a plan for situations like this.

The cardiac episode does not appear to be a problem for now, as Harbaugh returned to the sidelines and continued coaching his team to victory. However, if the issue persists, Harbaugh's presence on the sideline may not be guaranteed in the future. Should the new head coach continue to miss playing time, the Chargers will need to ensure their rostering order behind Harbaugh is effective.

Here are a few more injury updates from the NFL:

  • Vikings run back Aaron Jones left last weekend's win over the Jets early due to a hip injury. According to Schefter, Jones will be out week-to-week due to the hip problem. Luckily for Minnesota, the team had a bye in Week 6, allowing the veteran rusher to rest for a little over a week. He reportedly managed to avoid serious injury, but his training report this week will show how lucky he was.
  • Titans Rookie linebacker Cedric Gray was scheduled to return from injured reserve early this week. Tennessee has no plans to rush back the 24-year-old, however, as Jim Wyatt of TennesseeTitans.com reports that the team plans to use most of Gray's 21-day practice window before activating him. There's always the possibility that Gray won't be able to return after the 21 days are up and will be sent back to IR for the remainder of the year.
