According to CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones, the Washington Commanders are considered a “real contender” for New Orleans Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore as the trade deadline approaches at 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday.

According to sources, the Commanders have emerged as real contenders for Saints CB Marshon Lattimore @NFLonCBS. The Chiefs were also interested in the former Pro Bowl corner. There are still 4 hours until the deadline.

NFL insider Jordan Schultz also provided insight into the Saints' asking price.

The 28-year-old Lattimore, a four-time Pro Bowler, has collected 30 tackles and two pass breakups in seven starts for the Saints this season.

There have been trade talks surrounding the commanders on various fronts recently.

First, players have reportedly spoken with their agents about technical changes to the 7-2 Commanders, an exciting top team with a bright future under rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported: “In recent weeks, there have been players who privately stated or told their agents that they wanted to be traded to the Commanders, league sources told ESPN.”

Second, according to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, Washington has been searching for a cornerback as the deadline approaches.

“It’s no surprise that the red-hot Washington commanders are stopping by looking for a corner,” Russini wrote.

“Coach Dan Quinn knows this is a weakness on his roster, and at 6-2, Washington needs help if it wants to get past the Philadelphia Eagles and their outstanding receiver group in the NFC East.”

Washington added another victory with a 27-22 victory over the New York Giants on Sunday, but the second-place Eagles are hot on their heels at 6-2.

Third, it appears the Commanders are looking to refill the position with current personnel as the team gauges interest in 2023 first-round pick Emmanuel Forbes, according to NFL insider Josina Anderson.

As for Lattimore, the 2-7 Saints are on a seven-game losing streak and the team just fired head coach Dennis Allen. Basically, their season is over. Therefore, it's probably best for the Saints to rebuild at this point and secure future draft picks.

The interest in Lattimore is clearly there, as Anderson noted.

All in all, a Commanders Saints deal with Lattimore makes perfect sense on paper. The question is whether the two teams can achieve something in the final hours before the deadline.
