NYPD: Motorcyclist, 21, killed in car crash in Eltingville

STATEN ISLAND, NY – A 21-year-old male motorcyclist died in a crash in Eltingville Wednesday evening.

According to police, officers responded to a 911 call about a vehicle collision at the intersection of Richmond Avenue and Amboy Road around 7:30 p.m

Upon arrival, officers observed the motorcyclist with injuries to his head and a 25-year-old female driver with injuries to her neck, a spokeswoman for the NYPD's deputy commissioner of public information said.

Emergency responders transported the motorcyclist to Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze, where he was later pronounced dead, police said.

The driver remained at the scene before being transported to the same medical facility in stable condition, police said.

A preliminary investigation revealed the motorcyclist was traveling south on Richmond Avenue when he collided with another vehicle that was traveling north on Richmond Avenue and attempting to make a left turn onto Amboy Road, the spokeswoman said.

A black motorcycle lay twisted on its side, surrounded by a significant amount of debris, while a dark SUV with a damaged passenger side and deployed airbags could be seen in the middle of the road, just steps from the crosswalk.

Officers on scene crisscrossed patrol lines and maneuvered NYPD vehicles to shut down both streets while directing traffic away from the busy intersection.

There have been no arrests and the Highway District Collision Investigation Squad's investigation is ongoing, police said.

The identity of the deceased will be kept secret until the family is properly notified.
