Oklahoma will impose offensive play-calling duties starting in Week 9, according to the report

The Oklahoma Sooners have caused some turmoil with their coaching staff after a disappointing 4-3 start. Earlier Sunday, it was reported that offensive coordinator Seth Littrell was fired.

According to a report from ESPN's Pete Thamel, it has since been reported that co-OC Joe Jon Finley will be the new play-caller for the Sooners. Former Duke OC Kevin Johns will also reportedly play a “significant role on offense.” Johns was an offensive analyst but will now coach the team's QBs.

Johns spent the last two seasons as the OC/QB coach for the Blue Devils. The coach helped Riley Leonard have his best college season in 2022. Now the Sooners are hoping coach Jackson Arnold can help him regain his confidence.

The Sooners are hoping these midseason changes will help ignite the spark. The Sooners are ranked No. 128 nationally in total offense, No. 0. 114 rushing offense, No. 116 passing offense and No. 107 scoring offense. The team has only put up 12 points in its last two SEC games and recently made the decision to return to Arnold.

Arnold began the season as a starter but was on the bench during the Tennessee game. However, Michael Hawkins Jr. struggled during his time as a starter and the team switched back to Arnold in Week 8.

In Week 9, the Sooners travel to Oxford to take on No. 18 Ole Miss. The Sooners and Rebels will face off at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on Saturday at noon ET.
