Oregon Football will wear the new “Heroes” jersey against Michigan State

This week is the Oregon Football Stomp Out Cancer game.

As part of the new “Generation O” collection, the Ducks unveiled the new Heroes jersey, which serves as a symbol of those who fight and have fought against all types of cancer, including the doctors and nurses who help patients and those who search struggling for a cure.

“You always hear about the Ducks wearing flashy uniforms, but I think this is a little more than flashy,” Ducks senior linebacker Bryce Boettcher said. “There’s a bigger meaning behind it that I think is really, really cool.”

“We as a group felt like this would be the perfect game to bring these out,” said Oregon senior linebacker Jeff Bassa, who helped select the game for each new Generation O jersey.

The Heroes jerseys were designed by head coach Dan Lanning's wife, Sauphia Lanning, a cancer survivor, and their sons.

“I know it was really important to my wife that it was something that truly honored all forms of cancer and everyone affected by it,” Coach Lanning said.

“The story behind Coach Lanning’s wife and their children helping to create it is truly special,” Boettcher added.

The color of Sauphia's cancer ribbon is yellow and is reflected in the color of the jerseys as well as all other cancer colors depicted in the logo as well as on the helmets, gloves and tips of the football boots.

But these jerseys aren't just special for the Lanning family, they're also special for the players and fans.

Jeff Bassa's younger sister beat cancer when she was little.

“It means a lot to me too and I know it means a lot to a lot of people,” Bassa said.

The Ducks will wear the special Stomp Out Cancer jerseys against Michigan State on Friday, October 4th at Autzen Stadium at 6 p.m

Boettcher added, “I think it's going to be a great, great event when we play Michigan State.”
