Paris Masters: Alexander Zverev meets Ugo Humbert in the final

Home favorite Ugo Humbert overtook himself to secure a place against Germany's Alexander Zverev in the final of the Paris Masters.

Both defeated the former Paris champion on Saturday to reach their fourth ATP final of the year, with world number three Zverev having lost the French Open final to Carlos Alcaraz in June.

Humbert, the French number one, defeated Karen Khachanov 6-7 (6-8), 6-4 and 6-3 after Zverev put in an excellent performance and world number 13 Holger Rune 6-3, 7 :6 (7:4) outclassed.

Humbert lost serve twice in the opening set, but each time the world number 18 responded immediately with a break, but Russian Khachanov was able to secure victory in the tiebreak.

Khachanov, the world No. 21, forced a break point in the second set and was unable to capitalize on it as Humbert improved on his first serve and used powerful groundstrokes to take the lead, scoring 13 winners to level the game.

The 26-year-old continued this approach into the decider and was even more dominant, managing two breaks to secure the win.

The Roland Garros runner-up, 27, shook off a late double fault to finish the opening set with 11 winners at the packed Palais Omnisports in Bercy.

A tighter second set followed in which Rune increased the aggressiveness with intermittent serves and volleys, but Zverev took control in the tiebreak by taking a 3-0 lead and held his nerve from there on to secure the 65th. To secure the season win of his career.
