“Patriots' Jerod Mayo offers tips on revamping offensive line”

The Patriots will field their seventh combination of different offensive lines on Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

It's week 7.

New England didn't announce specific plans for how things would change, but was forced to make adjustments after ruling out starting left tackle Vederian Lowe on Thursday.

“It was tough,” Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo said Friday in a video provided by the team. “It was tough, not just at the left tackle position, but the entire offensive line in general. I feel like we've been talking about it since training camp, constantly, whether it's replacing someone due to injury or lack of performance, and we're still reshuffling the cards. It's definitely a challenge, but everyone has to be ready to play, no matter what position it is.

Lowe, Chukwuma Okorafor, Demontrey Jacobs, Caedan Wallace, Michael Jordan, Sidy Sow, David Andrews, Ben Brown, Nick Leverett, Mike Onwenu and Layden Robinson have each started at least one game for the club this season, and the former is injured in one of these names will help get back into the lineup.

“Layden (Robinson) is one of the hardest training guys on the team,” Mayo said. “He always shows tremendous effort and sometimes you hit a wall. He went through that wall and will play (Sunday). He is a very tough player and I am also looking forward to his future.”

The revelation that Mayo have added Robinson back into the lineup paints a pretty complete picture, given he has only started at right-back this season. The Patriots would then likely move Demontrey Jacobs back to left tackle, where he started in Week 4 against the San Francisco 49ers, while Onwenu moved back to right tackle, where he started the regular season.

However, Mayo did not want to make this admission.

“I don’t want to get into where he will play,” Mayo said when asked about Onwenu. “I’ve always said he’s a very versatile player; Whether it’s in coverage or attack, he has the ability to function and perform at a high level.”

It's been a difficult start to the season for New England with two former starters no longer with the team, but all they can do is move forward. Jacobs-Jordan-Brown-Robinson-Onwenu appears to be the group that will lead the attack, at least for now.
