Pittsburgh Steelers RB endorses Justin Fields

While Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Justin Fields struggled as he came close to losing his starting job to Russell Wilson, running back Najee Harris stood behind him and made sure his contributions didn't go unnoticed.

“I saw some comments from Justin that he wasn’t doing his best,” Harris said. “I think he did his best. I think he did a really good job – and he shouldn't – Well, I know he's trying – but I'm just saying publicly that we're all proud of him and don't be so hard on yourself. I stand behind you. But I think we all need to be there because we definitely need both.

In his six starts this season, Fields led the Steelers to a 4-2 record, throwing for 1,106 yards, five touchdowns and one interception, in addition to 231 yards and five scores on the ground.

He lost the quarterback battle after training camp and preseason, but returned to action after Wilson re-injured a previous calf injury before the team's Week 1 game against the Atlanta Falcons. Fields showed tremendous development from his time with the Chicago Bears, proving to be a threat both in the pocket and on the move, but that wasn't enough to convince Pittsburgh that he would do more on offense than Wilson.

The team's decision has seemingly caused a stir, and while Wilson is about as successful as it gets, he has yet to prove he can be a success in the Steelers' offense.

Harris explained that with Wilson at the helm, he would have to follow in the footsteps of what Fields has done so far in order for Pittsburgh to maintain its good start.

“With Russ being out there, he has to do the same thing Justin did,” Harris said. “Justin has done a great job for us. This is the best start I’ve had in my years here.”
