PSN down: PlayStation Network is not working as PS5 and PS4 players cannot go online

The PlayStation Network is broken, meaning players can no longer get online.

The system has been down for hours. Due to the online nature of today's consoles, players may not be able to open games or apps or play with others online.

The service status page on PlayStation's website said that all consoles were affected: the PS5 and PS4, but also the PS3 and PS Vita.

“You may have difficulty launching games, apps, or network features,” says the latest update on this page.

“We are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience.”

Sony gave no indication of when services will be restored. At the time of publication, they had already been out of service for more than six hours.

The problems occurred shortly after PlayStation released an update that added large ads to users' home screens. Some gamers feared it was an attempt to add more marketing to the console – but Sony said the changes were the result of a mistake.

“A technical error with the official messaging feature on the PS5 console has now been resolved,” the official PlayStation account said late Monday. “There have been no changes to the way game messages are displayed on PS5.”

It also came shortly after the release of EA FC 25, one of the biggest PlayStation games of the year.
