Purdy had to get 'real' with himself to lead 49ers' turnaround to victory originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area

As halftime began Sunday night against the Dallas Cowboys, the 49ers offense was in trouble.

Quarterback Brock Purdy delivered explosive plays, but wasn't quite as efficient as usual with a completion rate of 63 percent. San Francisco's offense in particular had problems in the third period and only converted two of seven chances.

With the 49ers trailing 10-6 at halftime, Purdy had a moment of self-reflection.

“I definitely thought I had some missed opportunities – obviously for big plays – but generally it was just first-half completions, especially on third downs,” Purdy told reporters after the game. “For me it was just about being honest with myself. I knew I had to get better, especially for our team.”

“The defense did a great job in that first half and I feel like we just stalled on third downs and a lot of that was on me. So we went into halftime and we just talked about our plan for the second half.” . For my mindset, it was like I had to go back to basics and just keep things in my head and still play with conviction but be aggressive and just trust in my guys. So that was the mindset and I thought we went out and for the most part executed a lot better.

Whatever Purdy did to reset his mentality definitely worked.

In the second half, the 49ers quarterback didn't take as many downfield shots – he only passed for 109 yards – but his efficiency increased significantly. He completed 80 percent of his passes and San Francisco converted six of nine third downs.

This helped lead the 49ers to a huge turnaround in the third quarter, outscoring the Cowboys 21-0 during that span and ultimately winning 30-24.

Perhaps being honest with yourself is the secret key to all of life's problems.
