RACHAEL Ray is America's second most popular chef – a new poll has revealed Gordon Ramsey has overtaken her to take the No. 1 spot in the polls.

Caterer-turned-chef-turned-entrepreneur Martha Stewart (26%) and Emeril Lagasse (26%) round out the five favorites.

In fact, Americans would be willing to spend an average of nearly $340 for a three-course meal prepared by their favorite chef, and nearly one in five (17%) would spend more than $500.

This comes after Rachael Ray made a rare public appearance at a New York food festival this month after raising health concerns and recently admitting to “severe falls.”

Fans expressed their fears for the star after she appeared to slur her speech in a clip from her show posted to Instagram.

However, the 56-year-old has not commented on the concerns and has instead filtered the comments on her videos.

The TV Cooking Survey results found that the average respondent engages with or consumes food-related content four days per week, with 22% doing so every day.

Foodies are most likely to watch TV shows (51%), browse cooking websites (38%) and consume social media or content from amateur food influencers (30%).

The survey, conducted by Talker Research on behalf of KaTom, examined how consumption of food-related content is finding its way into Americans' kitchens and onto their plates.

Just over two-thirds (67%) prefer to watch videos of someone personally preparing the food rather than demonstrating a dish that has already been prepared (11%).

This may be because 78% of respondents agree that consuming food-related content inspires them to be more creative in their own cooking.

Additionally, this content also encourages them to try new techniques (46%), feel more informed about cooking overall (37%), or even keep up to date with the latest and greatest products (24%) .

Approximately half (48%) of Americans have purchased kitchen products and cooking tools recommended by their favorite celebrities, including: cookware (58%), utensils (40%), cookbooks or recipes (38%), appliances (25%). and tableware (23%).

These respondents estimate that they have spent an average of $382 in the past five years, while more than a quarter (27%) have spent more than $500.

“The results found that 40% of Americans who have not purchased kitchen products recommended by their favorite chef are likely to do so in the future,” said Patricia Bible, founder, president and CEO of KaTom. “You don’t have to be Gordon Ramsey or Rachael Ray to unleash your inner celebrity chef. Experimenting with recipes and equipment is part of the journey and no matter who you choose to emulate, there are always new things to learn and try.”

When asked about their own cooking skills, almost a third (30%) consider themselves to be a trainee chef or someone who still has a lot to learn but is improving and enjoying cooking.

Almost a quarter (23%) described themselves as a sous chef or good cook who enjoys helping out in the kitchen and occasionally taking the lead.

Others like to hold the title of master chef (18%) who cook great and enjoy doing so at home and for others, while 10% are takeout kings and queens who rarely cook at home and are most likely to order out.

Regardless of their cooking skills, Americans' favorite foods include main dishes like chicken or steak (46%), followed by grilled foods like burgers and hot dogs (28%), desserts and baked goods (21%), and breakfast foods (21%).

In an average week, Americans treat themselves to their favorite food about four times.

When it comes to favorite cuisine, American cuisine (35%), Mexican cuisine (33%) and Italian cuisine (31%) are in the top three places.

63% of Americans believe their favorite meals can be easily prepared at home, which is good news for the 55% who prefer cooking from home to a restaurant (29%).

Americans also know an average of nine different recipes by heart, although interestingly, they are slightly more likely to shop for groceries first and then plan meals later (50%) than they are to purchase recipes in advance (41%).

“Whether you’re already making gourmet meals at home or are just starting to awaken your inner chef, one thing is for sure: you need the right tools,” Bible said. “Choosing kitchen products that are functional and practical is a great start, and a recommendation from your favorite celebrity chef adds a nice icing on the cake.”

Talker Research surveyed 2,000 Americans from the general population; The survey was commissioned by KaTom and administered and conducted online by Talker Research between September 25th and 27th, 2024.
