“Real contender” … Commanders battle Chiefs for four-time Pro Bowl cornerback

“Real contender” … Commanders battle Chiefs for four-time Pro Bowl cornerback

The Washington Commanders are one of the most shocking teams of the 2024 season, and for good reason. They have a 7-2 record through nine games and lead the NFC East. One thing they learned before the trade deadline began is that they are reputable.

The arrival of first-year head coach Dan Quinn and quarterback Jayden Daniels has helped usher in a culture change within the franchise, and they are looking better than they have in years. The club that currently leads the NFC East has no reason to take its foot off the gas.

Trade deadline day is the best time for NFL teams to improve their rosters to ensure they can compete for a Super Bowl in the second half of the season and in the playoffs. The Commanders should definitely be a buyer.

One name to keep an eye on at the deadline is Marshon Lattimore – a four-time Pro Bowl cornerback for the New Orleans Saints. Washington was expected to be among a handful of suitors, including the Kansas City Chiefs.

“The Commanders have emerged as real contenders for Saints CB Marshon Lattimore,” Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports reported. “The Chiefs also had interest in the former Pro Bowl corner. There are still four hours until the deadline.”

Offensively, the Commanders could have benefited from an additional wide receiver, although the market for that position has dried up as many moves have been made in that regard. However, adding to the secondary could go a long way in their defense.

The Chiefs are looking for their third straight Super Bowl victory, while the Commanders are fresh off a four-win season. Washington should be heavily pursuing the talented defensive back to bolster its defense and focus on its current core, which is performing positively so far.
