Golden Globe-winning actor Richard Gere just sold the New Canaan estate he purchased two years ago from multi-Grammy-winning singer and songwriter Paul Simon, the New Canaan Advertiser reports. The deal appears to have taken place off-market – and while the identity of the new owner isn't immediately clear, the sale came at a slight loss for the Pretty Woman star.

Property records show the spread traded for $10.75 million. In 2022, Gere and his wife, Spanish publicist Alejandra Silva, spent $10.8 million on the site.

This is not the only damage the property suffered.

When Gere and Silva bought it, they made a great offer. Simon and his wife, singer Edie Brickell, had been trying to sell the Georgian-style property since 2019, initially listing it for sale for $13.9 million. The asking price then fluctuated between $11.9 and $12 million – all significantly less than the $16.5 million they paid for it in 2002.

Despite the sales difficulties, Simon's fans might be interested in the fact that he recorded several albums in the main five-bedroom house. (In total, the property includes this structure and a three-bedroom cottage.)

Gere, for his part, sold the property to move to his wife's home country of Spain.

Amenities, at least outdoors, include gardens, a pool, and terraced terraces. There is also a pond with a waterfall and hiking trails.
