Riley Green explains the great backstory to the “Don’t Mind If I Do” duet

Riley Green's hit “Don't Mind If I Do” came about by accident.

The country music sensation recently released his latest album – also titled “Don't Mind If I Do” – and one of the album's biggest tracks is Ella Langley.

The two previously collaborated on “You Look Like You Love Me” and “Don't Mind If I Do” became their second smash hit together.

Riley Green explains how “Don't Mind If I Do” with Ella Langley came about.

Was there a lot of planning involved in creating the popular duet song? Not at all. It was a situation in the right place at the right time.

Riley said the following during an Apple Music interview when explaining how the hit song with Langley came about:

“I don't know if I've told you this, but I didn't plan for her to be on this song. I wrote it as a duet, but I just had her come into the studio to sing a female voice to hear it so I could potentially play around with it, and it sounded so great. You know, we come from very similar places in Alabama, and I think we grew up listening to the same type of music. You know, maybe that's why our voices fit together so well and we have the same tone. So, you know, it wasn't even planned to have these two duets. I’m happy for their success and it’s fun to have them on the road doing these two songs and having these two hits with them.”

Sometimes it's better to be lucky than to be good. Both Riley and Langley were in this situation. They're both incredibly talented, but needed a bit of luck to create one of the biggest songs of the year.

The fact that Riley only needed her as a replacement to get some female vocals on the track to see what it would sound like and it turned into arguably the biggest song of her career is crazy.

It's also a good example of why you shouldn't turn down new opportunities. You never know where they could lead. Langley could have died for any reason she could think of. Instead, she said yes, and the rest is history.

If you haven't checked out Riley Green's new album yet, I recommend you do so if you're a fan of country music. It's a lot of fun and offers 18 rock solid tracks. Are you a fan of his work? Let me know at [email protected].
