Rocky Mountain Power is planning a power outage in parts of Utah County

UTAH COUNTY, Utah (ABC4) – If you live in Eagle Mountain, Cedar Fort, Fairfield or Saratoga Springs, there may be a power outage Wednesday evening.

Rocky Mountain Power announced that it will initiate a “planned power outage” on the evening of November 6th from 11:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. on November 7th.

According to Rocky Mountain Power, this involves implementing significant system updates to transmission lines that will “improve quality of service and support recent improvements to public road infrastructure.”

Rocky Mountain Power added that the outage will allow them to increase the height of transmission lines, reducing the risk of them coming into contact with high-profile vehicles and preventing future service interruptions.

Rocky Mountain Power said customers were notified via text message, email and phone calls with follow-up information beginning Friday, Nov. 1, to give them time to prepare.

According to a Facebook post The city of Saratoga Springs expects the outage to impact traffic signals near the intersection of Mountain View Corridor and Pioneer Crossing. These traffic lights should be treated as a four-way stop, the city said. The city also said homes in the Aspen Hills, Harvest Hills, Wild Flower, Sunrise Meadows, Talus Ridge, Mount Saratoga and Quail Hill neighborhoods could be affected.

Rocky Mountain Power sent the following preparation tips to customers:

  • Turn off electric stoves, heaters and air conditioners.

  • Leave a light on to indicate when power is restored.

  • Have flashlights handy and check on elderly or sick neighbors.

  • Make sure your heating or cooling needs are safely met during this time.

  • If you use a generator, connect it via an approved transfer switch for safety reasons.
