Schools in Allentown are closed Monday for Kamala Harris' rally

ALLENTOWN, Pa. — For the second time in less than a week, city schools will be closed Monday for a presidential campaign rally.

Vice President Kamala Harris will hold a rally in Allentown on Monday afternoon — the day before Election Day.

“After careful consideration and in consultation with the Allentown Police Department, the Allentown School District is canceling classes on Monday, November 4, 2024 due to a planned political rally in the city of Allentown,” the school district announced. “This event is expected to attract large crowds, heavy traffic and possible disruption that may impact the safety of our students and staff.”

Extracurricular activities and sporting events will also be canceled, the district said. The Penn Street Civic Center and school offices will be open until noon Monday. Administrators and 12-month clerks must report to their work assignments by 12 p.m.

Because of election day, the school will also be closed on Tuesday.

Details of Harris' visit have yet to be announced, but she is expected to be in Allentown on Monday afternoon.

Former President Donald Trump held a campaign rally at the PPL Center in Allentown on Tuesday. The school was also closed that day.
