Security footage of Liam Payne shows he fainted before falling: report

Varela claimed during an appearance on Socios del EspectáculoA broadcast by Buenos Aires-based television station Canal 13 revealed that CCTV footage captured Payne's fall and the moments before it.

Varela's claims support the results of Payne's preliminary autopsy, which stated that Payne “may have fallen into a state of semi- or total unconsciousness,” as the position in which the 31-year-old's body was found and his injuries suggested he “could have fallen into a state of semi- or complete unconsciousness.” Do not take a reflexive stance during the fall to protect yourself.

Chief of Buenos Aires Emergency Services Alberto Crescenti said Payne suffered “severe injuries” that were “incompatible with life” after falling from a third-floor balcony at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel.

“From what the team saw, there appeared to be a fractured skull and extremely serious injuries that resulted in his immediate death,” Crescenti said. “The team could do absolutely nothing. There was no resuscitation as he was confirmed to have died.”

A partial autopsy revealed that Payne had “pink cocaine” – a recreational drug that is typically a mixture of ketamine, MDMA and methamphetamine – in his system, along with cocaine, benzodiazepines and crack cocaine, at the time of his death.

While Payne's initial preliminary autopsy revealed that “no injuries were observed that suggest third-party involvement,” Varela claimed that someone was being investigated in connection with the One Direction alum's death: an employee of the hotel.

“He has developed an excellent relationship with Liam. He ignored an order from the hotel management. … It wasn’t about taking anything into Liam’s room,” Varela said of the worker. “Because of the good relationship he had with Liam, he requested a car through one of those taxi apps we all use because Liam wanted something. He did him this favor, a huge mistake because he is under investigation and they see what was transmitted in that vehicle.”

Varela added that the hotel employee was suspended.

Payne is survived by his seven-year-old son Bear, whom he shared with his ex-wife Cheryl Cole. Cole, 41, responded to Payne's death via Instagram on October 18.

“As I try to come to terms with this earth-shattering event and process my own grief during this indescribably painful time, I would like to kindly remind everyone that we have lost a human being,” Cole wrote via Instagram alongside a photo of Payne, a then-small one Bear. “Liam was not just a pop star and celebrity, he was a son, a brother, an uncle, a dear friend and a father to our 7-year-old son. A son who now has to face the reality of never seeing his father again.”
