See what Dak Prescott said about his availability against the Eagles as the Cowboys' injuries pile up

ATLANTA – Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott suffered a right hamstring injury late in the third quarter of Sunday's loss to the Falcons.

Prescott said he felt a tug after a scramble and thought it would go away. But things got worse a few plays later when he attempted a pass to receiver Jalen Brooks.

“It’s hard to run on at this point,” Prescott said after the game. “I saw the medical team and asked if I could make it worse and they said I couldn’t protect myself and called.”

Prescott did not play in the fourth quarter. He finished the game 18 for 24 for 133 yards with a touchdown. Prescott also ran for 30 yards on three scrambles.

Prescott said he will undergo an MRI scan on Monday to determine the damage to the upper part of the leg.

Whether he will play on Sunday against the Eagles will be the biggest question heading into that game.

“I mean, it's hard for me to say. I would say I’ll be out there next week,” he said. “I have to see it again. Fortunately, I can say that I healed quickly and made quick progress with injuries and other things. I'm so grateful for that. I'll have to take a picture of it. When we get a picture of it, I think we’ll see how bad it is, and it’s going to take a lot for me personally to not be out there.”

Cooper Rush replaced Prescott and threw a touchdown pass for 115 yards on 13 of 25 passes. In 2022, Rush won four of five games, coming in for Prescott, who missed five games with a broken thumb.

The Cowboys have confidence in Rush when he has to play against the Eagles, but concerns about Prescott remain.

“Well, I’m worried about it,” Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said. “It worried me when I saw the players. I saw him react to any weakness he may have had in his (hamstring muscles). We just have to look at it. I'm going to be very frank with you, you've got to give Rush a little positivity here, not just a little, he's nailed it and I'm proud of him. I thought he played well.”

Prescott wasn't the only Cowboys player to suffer an injury.

Safety Juanyeh Thomas left in the fourth quarter with a concussion and did not return. Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb suffered a right shoulder injury. He briefly left the game but returned and even caught a two-point conversion pass.

Lamb caught eight passes for 47 yards on 12 targets.

Left tackle Tyler Guyton did not start the second half with a neck injury, but returned in the second half.

The biggest health concern revolves around Prescott.

With the Cowboys on a three-game losing streak, Prescott feels the need to play, but his long-term health is a major concern.

It was very difficult for him to leave the game on Sunday.

“Yes, very difficult,” he said. “I guess in the sense that I'm just asking if I can make it worse if I can, like knowing how much we needed this. Yes, I just wanted to go out and compete. Go out and fight. Yeah, crazy.”
