Sheetz says it will open a location in this Macomb County community

After city council approval, Sheetz announced Thursday it would open a location in Fraser.

According to a news release from the 24-hour gas/convenience store chain, the Fraser store is planned for the southwest corner of 14 Mile and Utica streets. Fraser City Council voted Wednesday to conditionally rezone the property.

“We are grateful for the lively and passionate dialogue at last night’s meeting, as well as the opportunity to work with local officials and residents to show we belong in their community,” Justin Mandel, the company’s regional real estate director, said in a Thursday release . “We look forward to supporting Fraser through creating meaningful jobs, donations to food banks, partnerships with local organizations and more.”

In August, Michigan's first gas station and supermarket opened to much fanfare in Romulus. In mid-October, the Altoona, Pennsylvania-based company announced the planned locations for 31925 Van Dyke, Warren; 19001 E. Nine Mile, Eastpointe and 2103 W. Michigan Ave., Ypsilanti.

Sheetz previously announced plans to open two locations in Taylor, another store in Warren and others in Macomb and Chesterfield Township. Sheetz is also asking to build a 3.83-acre site in Farmington Hills, but some community members are protesting the development, citing potential public safety issues.

Travis Sheetz, president and CEO of Sheetz, previously told The Detroit News that the company plans to open up to 60 locations in Michigan and establish an office in Farmington Hills in the next five to six years.

The company operates more than 750 stores in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, Ohio, North Carolina and Michigan. Sheetz offers made-to-order sandwiches and salads ordered through touchscreen terminals. All Sheetz convenience stores are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
