Sixers Bell Ringer: Jared McCain drops 20, no one else reaches double figures against Celtics

On Friday night, we were unable to watch most of the first quarter due to technical difficulties with NBA League Pass. The technical difficulties would have been better on Saturday.

The Sixers, who rested the top eight players in their rotation, were under fire by a Celtics team that went 139-89 against the majority of their starters.

There's really no point in recapping much of it. Let's move on to Bell Ringer.

Jared McCain: 20 points (9 of 21, 1 of 8 from three), 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals

Man, there wasn't much to glean from it, but McCain stood out as a guy who looked like he belonged out there.

The difficult three-minute shooting night makes his stats look difficult, but McCain performed well in almost every other aspect. More and more of his trips end in buckets. This game against the 1.90 meter tall Luke Kornet was impressive

In Boston, Jrue Holiday and Derrick White played in the backfield. They are arguably the best defensive guard duo in the NBA. McCain didn't shy away one bit. That drive-and-1 finish against White is as good as it gets.

The Celtics' star wing duo, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, chased the 1.90 meter tall McCain with switches. Both All-Stars got their chance, but McCain stuck his nose in it. He had a scene early in the game where he fought Brown for a rebound and eventually secured it. He also undressed Tatum on a car ride.

Of all the things to like about McCain so far, his fearlessness might be number one.

Guerschon Yabusele: 8 points (2 of 4 from three), 3 rebounds, 2 assists, one block

A cool full-circle moment for Yabusele, who started against the team that drafted him in 2016. It's looking more and more like French striker Nick Nurses will be a small-ball midfielder.

There's really nothing flashy about Yabusele's game. He just knows how to play. He knows where he needs to be on the floor and he knows what to do with the ball in his hands.

It looks like he'll be the ninth man in Nurse's rotation – especially if he continues to shoot as well as he has been. He was 2 of 4 on Saturday after being 1 of 3 on Friday and 1 of 1 on Monday. Even though he won't hit 50% early in the regular season, it's good to see him confidently step into those threes and make some of them.

Similar to Kelly Oubre Jr. last season, Yabusele could be a late offseason addition who plays a big role.

KJ Martin: 9 points (4 of 7, 0 of 1 from three), 5 rebounds, 2 assists

Honestly, Martin was the only other player who didn't look out of place. Towards the end of last season, it seemed like Nurse had developed a better sense of how to use Martin. One thing the high-flying forward did so well in Houston was curling to the rim and finishing.

This game with Jeff Dowtin was one of the few highlights for the Sixers that night.

Martin has reworked his shot in the offseason and it actually looks more fluid, but the three he made on Saturday – and missed – were his first attempt in the preseason. Currently, Martin appears to have an advantage over Ricky Council IV as the team's tenth man. It will be interesting to see how Nurse handles his rotation early in the season.
