You wouldn't know it from the small amount of snow in the Fort Collins area, but a complex storm system has dumped more than a foot of snow in parts of Colorado since Wednesday morning, and much more snow is forecast, impacting travel.

According to the National Weather Service, a winter storm warning is in effect until 5 a.m. Thursday for much of the area east and south of Denver, as well as warnings for the northeastern plains and the foothills and mountains west of Denver.

Where the travel impact is likely to be greatest

The focus of this storm, according to the National Weather Service, is from Denver east to the Kansas border, which will impact traffic on Interstate 70, and from Denver south to the New Mexico border, which will impact traffic on Interstate 25 will have until Friday morning.

Denver International Airport is about to receive a significant amount of snowfall with 5 inches expected, but up to 12 inches possible. Be sure to contact your airline if you are flying in the next few days.
