Sources – Oklahoma releases OC Seth Littrell, tabs Joe Jon Finley

The Oklahoma Sooners have fired offensive coordinator Seth Littrell, sources confirmed to ESPN on Sunday following multiple media reports.

A day after its offense faltered again in a 35-9 home loss to South Carolina on Saturday afternoon, Oklahoma said goodbye to its first-year play-caller.

Co-offensive coordinator Joe Jon Finley will take over the game management duties, while analyst Kevin Johns, the former Duke offensive coordinator, has been promoted to quarterbacks coach, sources confirmed to ESPN.

The unranked Sooners, 1-3 in their SEC debut, face Ole Miss in Week 9 and are ranked 128th nationally in total offense and 107th in scoring. They have 11 turnovers in seven games.

Littrell was scheduled to earn $1.1 million in his first season in charge of Oklahoma's offense, with a contract that would run through the end of the 2026 season. He assumed the OC role in December 2023 following Jeff Lebby's departure to Mississippi State.

Ball security was a factor when Oklahoma benched quarterback Jackson Arnold in favor of freshman Michael Hawkins Jr. in Week 4. The Sooners went back to Arnold on Saturday after Hawkins committed three turnovers in the first quarter, and Arnold remained at center for the rest of Oklahoma's worst home loss since 2016.

Including the 34-3 loss to Texas on Oct. 12, it is the first time since 1998 that Oklahoma has been held under 10 points in consecutive games.
