FAST: The South Carolina Gamecocks (3-3, 1-3 SEC) begin the second half of the 2024 regular season with the end of a two-game road swing as they travel to Norman, Oklahoma for the first time in school history to meet on Saturday, Oct. 19, in an SEC showdown against the Oklahoma Sooners (4-2, 1-2 SEC). Game time is set for 12:45 p.m. ET (11:45 a.m. CT) at Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium (80.126).

ABOUT THE AIRWAVES: This week's contest will be televised on the SEC Network. Tom Hart will provide play-by-play while Cole Cubelic provides color commentary. Alyssa Lang will patrol the sidelines. Compass Media also has a national radio audience, with Gregg Daniels serving as play-by-play voice and Chad Brown adding analysis. The Gamecock Sports Radio Network features two Gamecock Great quarterbacks in play-by-play voice Todd Ellis (Season 33) and analyst Tommy Suggs (Season 52). Chet Tucker returns for the second time as a sideline reporter.

REACHING THE HALF POINT: The South Carolina Gamecocks have posted a 3-3 overall record and a 1-3 record in SEC play through the first half of the 2024 season. All three of Carolina's losses came against ranked opponents, with two of the setbacks not being decided until the final game of the game. They opened the campaign with a hard-fought 23-19 victory over Old Dominion, then dominated Kentucky in the SEC opener and won 31-6 in Lexington, the biggest road win of the Shane Beamer era at South Carolina. The Gamecocks were unable to hold onto their 17-0 first-half lead in a heartbreaking 36-33 setback to No. 16/17 LSU, but then rebounded with a convincing 50-7 win over Akron and improved to 3:1. The Gamecocks have lost their last two games against ranked opponents, falling to No. 12/11 Ole Miss in Columbia with a 27-3 decision and then suffering another tough loss with a 27-25 loss at No. 7/7 Alabama last Saturday afternoon in Tuscaloosa.

A LITTLE STORY: 2024 marks the fourth year of the Shane Beamer era and the 131st season of intercollegiate football at the University of South Carolina, dating back to 1892. It will be South Carolina's 118th consecutive year competing on the gridiron. The university did not field a team in either 1893 or 1906. Carolina holds a record of 637-616-44, a winning percentage of .508. Since the start of the 21st century, the Gamecocks are 171-134, a winning percentage of .561. In four seasons under Coach Beamer, the Gamecocks have a 23-21 record, a winning percentage of .523.

IT JUST MEANS MORE: The 2024 season will be South Carolina's 33rd year in the Southeastern Conference. South Carolina and Arkansas joined the SEC before the 1992 campaign. The Gamecocks won the SEC Eastern Division title in the 2010 season. The Gamecocks have an all-time record of 110-151-1 (.422) in the SEC regular season, but posted a record of 42-38 (.525) during the 2010-19 conference season. Under Coach Beamer, the Gamecocks are 11-17 in SEC play, a winning percentage of .393.

Robust slate: South Carolina once again has one of the toughest schedules in the country, as seven of its 12 opponents were ranked in the preseason top 20 in the country. The Gamecocks' 2024 slate includes contests against the preseason top-20 teams: Alabama (5/5), Ole Miss (6/6), Missouri (11/11), LSU (13/12), Clemson (14). /14) and Oklahoma (16/16) and Texas A&M (20/20). Six of these seven teams remain in the top 25 for the first seven weeks, and three of these opponents are still on the schedule.

FEELS LIKE THE FIRST TIME: The South Carolina Gamecocks and Oklahoma Sooners meet on the gridiron for the first time ever. The teams are scheduled to meet again next season in Colombia.

Well, we've never been to Spain: But we were in Oklahoma. The Gamecocks traveled to Tulsa in 1948 for a contest with the Golden Hurricane. Led by Steve “The Cadillac” Wadiak, Carolina defeated Tulsa 27-7. It will be the only time South Carolina will travel to the Sooner State for a football game.

SHANE, COME BACK!: South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer returns to Norman. From 2018 to 2020, he served as associate head coach/tight ends and H-backs coach on Lincoln Riley's staff at OU. The Sooners posted a 33-6 record during his three-year tenure, including back-to-back 12-2 seasons and College Football Playoff appearances in 2018 and 2019.

THE BEVILLE IS IN THE DETAILS: Third-string quarterback from South Carolina Davis Beville is in his first season with the Gamecocks. The Super Senior played three seasons as a member of the Pitt Panthers before enrolling at Norman, where he spent the 2022 and 2023 seasons on the Sooners' roster. He played in seven contests for OU and completed 15 of 30 passes for 102 yards. He made one start and received the call in the 2022 Red River Rivalry game against Texas. He appeared in one game for South Carolina and completed 4 of 6 passes for 33 yards and a touchdown against Akron, his first touchdown pass since 2021.

PARKING: Redshirt senior offensive lineman from South Carolina Aaryn Parks was a member of the Oklahoma Sooners from 2020 to 2023, appearing in eight games over those four seasons. Parks was injured in fall camp and did not play in a Gamecocks game this season.
