Stephen A. Smith continues on Hannity, Tears Trump Apart

Stephen A Smith On Thursday he directed his sharp criticism at former President Donald Trump. During an appearance on Fox News with Sean Hannity, the sports anchor railed against Trump's character and increasingly outlandish, rambling speeches.

“Maybe we don’t like something on the left. We may not like something on the right. “Those are the two candidates we need to work with,” Smith said. “And when you bring up questions about character or honesty or whatever, let me tell you something right now: You can bring a whole bunch of Republicans with you, and I'm OK with that. You can't cite Trump as an argument against using these arguments. You can’t do that.”

When Hannity suggested that Smith would “privately” vote for Trump, the ESPN personality quickly responded: “I told you I was on the record. I would have voted for almost any Republican but him. Nikki Haley. Chris Christie. But not him.”

Smith has criticized both political parties in the past, criticizing Democrats for not replacing President Joe Biden, 81, before Biden resigned and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris. He has also defended the president against “disrespectful” comments from Republican commentators and has previously called on Hannity to “respect your elders.”

In September, Smith praised Harris' acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention. “She made the case to be the Democratic nominee for president of the United States of America and reminded people of her credentials in a way that basically pushed aside the idea that she was a radical leftist,” Smith said. “She was absolutely sensational over the last 25 to 30 minutes, making her case to the American people on behalf of the Democratic Party.”

On trend

Speaking to Hannity on Thursday, Smith ripped into Trump's scattershot attacks on stage during campaign rallies. “I know you're not talking about someone being clear and convincing and expressing their thoughts clearly, but you're bragging about Donald Trump,” Smith told Hannity. “We can’t look at the same thing if you do that.”

From talking about late golfer Arnold Palmer being wealthy to calling the Democratic presidential candidate “retarded” to repeatedly expressing his admiration for dictators, Trump's rhetoric has become increasingly hateful and violent in the weeks leading up to the election. Earlier this month, in a speech on Fox News, Trump suggested using military forces against U.S. citizens who oppose him on Election Day and described Americans who disagree with him as “enemies from within.”
