Stevie Nicks, rock's ethereal singer, shines a light on real-world issues with her first new single in years.

“The Lighthouse,” out Friday, is a rousing feminist anthem designed to galvanize voters with lyrics like “get angry” and “they’ll take your power away if you don’t stand up.”

In the accompanying music video, Nicks unveils her distinctive voice from the top of a lighthouse – symbolizing a path forward in the darkness – as shots of people at rallies holding signs like “If it's not your body, it's not your decision” and “Real “Upholding men are feminists” is getting rolling.

Nicks began writing the song after Roe v. Wade was overthrown in 2022.

“It seemed like overnight people were saying, 'What can we do about this as a collective force?' For me, it was about writing a song,” Nicks said in a press release. “It took a while because I was traveling. Then early one morning I was watching the news on TV and a certain news anchor said something that felt like she was talking to me and explaining what the loss of Roe v. Wade would mean. I wrote the song the next morning and recorded it that evening.

“That was on September 6, 2022. I’ve been working on it since then. I often said to myself, 'This may be the most important thing I've ever done. To advocate for the women of the United States and their daughters…'granddaughters – and the men who love them.' This is an anthem.”

Although Nicks has not explicitly endorsed either candidate in the upcoming presidential election, she hinted that she will join her longtime friend Taylor Swift in voting for Kamala Harris.

In a September 11 Instagram post, Nicks wrote, “As my friend @taylorswift so eloquently said, now is the time to research and select the candidate who fits you and your beliefs.” Only 54 days left to choose from. Make sure you are registered to vote! Your vote in this election may be one of the most important things you ever do.” She captioned her post of herself petting a dog as “Childless Dog Lady.”

This isn't the first time the Grammy winner and two-time Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee has released a political song. During the 2022 midterm elections, she released a poem-turned-song, “Get It Back,” and during the 2020 election cycle, she released a single titled “Show Them The Way.”

Nicks is scheduled to appear as the musical guest on “Saturday Night Live” on October 12 when Ariana Grande hosts. She has concerts scheduled for September 28th at Hersheypark Stadium in Pennsylvania and with Billy Joel at Ford Field in Detroit on March 29th.
