TCS NYC Marathon: Before Sunday's competition, runners run 5K to the finish line in the Abbott Dash

NEW YORK (WABC) – As athletes from around the world prepare for the TCS New York City Marathon on Sunday, runners are taking part in preparation ceremonies to prepare for the big day.

On Saturday morning, nearly 10,000 runners of all ages took part in the Abbott Dash to the Fine Line 5K, one of 60 adult and youth races organized by the New York Road Runners.

Participants started on the East Side of Manhattan near the United Nations and raced through Midtown Manhattan to the finish line of the TCS NYC Marathon in Central Park.

Hosted by Eyewitness News anchors David Novarro and Sandra Bookman, the half-hour special features pre-race highlights and a look at the excitement leading up to this New York event that brings thousands of runners from around the world to the Big Apple. In fact, it was called “New York’s biggest block party.”

The 2024 TCS New York City Marathon takes place on Sunday, November 3rd and attracts more than 50,000 runners. It will be broadcast live in the New York area on WABC-TV Channel 7, beginning with pre-race coverage at 7:00 a.m
