Texans vs. Jets expert predictions for Thursday Night Football Week 9

Texans vs. Jets expert predictions for Thursday Night Football Week 9

Week 9 of the 2024 NFL season begins with an AFC duel between the Houston Texans (6-2) and the New York Jets (2-6).

The Texans have had a brutal week as they lost star wide receiver Stefon Diggs to a season-ending ACL tear. Without Diggs and with Nico Collins still on injured reserve, the Texans will need to step up some of their younger receivers.

As for the Jets, they're coming off an embarrassing loss to the New England Patriots and appear to be moving into must-win territory at the halfway point of the season.

Will the Jets get a much-needed win at home or will the weakened Houston team pick up another win on the road? The staff at Newsweek Sports has her predictions.

Noah Camras: The Jets somehow have the advantage against a much better Texans team that dreams of a Super Bowl. Yes, the Texans are exhausted, but CJ Stroud is the superior quarterback and he will lead his team to a 7-2 record with a huge road win.

Prediction: Texans 31, Jets 26

Matt Levine: Everyone here is betting against the Jets, but I'm going the opposite way. I think New York will shock the NFL world and pull off the upset win. Aaron Rodgers finally throws for more than 300 yards for the first time this season and the Jets get the win late in the game.

Prediction: Jets 30, Texans 27

James Brizuela: The Jets may be at home, but they're falling short in terms of the offensive prowess the team was predicted to have. Aaron Rodgers appears to be suffering from some ailments and Allen Lazard was just placed on IR. The defense is good, but they may not be able to shut down CJ Stroud and the Texans for long in this TNF matchup. Houston is just too good right now, even though they also lost Stefon Diggs this year.

Prediction: Texans 28, Jets 17

Jeremy Hanna: Aaron Rodgers and the Jets really need a win tonight if they want to even contend for the playoffs. Unfortunately, that won't happen as their opponent is CJ Stroud and the Texans. Even without star wide receivers Stefon Diggs and Nico Collins, the Texans should have no problem winning.

Prediction: Texans 24, Jets 13
