The Best Celebrity Halloween Costumes of 2024 (So Far)

Celebrities are getting their Halloween fix again this year, showing off their elaborate costumes on social media in honor of the spooky holiday.

Every year, pop culture enthusiasts wait for their favorite actors and musicians to post photos of their over-the-top Halloween attire. This year was no different, with photos of celebrity costumes already filling Instagram feeds last weekend as many kicked off pre-Halloween festivities.

Some stars favored niche costumes, while others gave classic characters a new twist or referenced their old roles.

Here are some of the best celebrity Halloween costumes (so far).

Janelle Monae

Janelle Monáe was recently dubbed the “Halloween Queen” by The Hollywood Reporter after it was revealed that she had created a haunted maze called “Monaé Manor.” She showed fans why she earned the title by dressing up as the titular ET from the 1982 Steven Spielberg classic.

The singer-songwriter-actor appeared on “The Jennifer Hudson Show” wearing an ET mask, matching arms and the film's iconic glowing alien finger. “I never thought I'd meet ET,” Hudson joked.

Lizzo

Lizzo had four Halloween costumes this year, including Edward SZAhands, a “picture card” and an angel figure she called “Hunny Bunny.” But she attracted the most attention with her first costume: a box of fake medicine called “Lizzo.”

The “Lizzo” costume referenced a “South Park” episode that aired earlier this year in which Lizzo's name was used as the name of an Ozempic alternate. The “South Park” episode suggested that taking “Lizzo” allows a person to not worry about their weight. Lizzo previously responded to the incident, saying she has become known for promoting uncompromising self-love.

Ed Sheeran

Singer Ed Sheeran dressed up as an artificial intelligence meme and posted a photo on Instagram of himself posing on a table in a fluffy monkey outfit.

The AI-generated meme is known as “Gay Little Monkey at the Apple Store,” according to meme database Know Your Meme. While the original “Gay Little Monkey” image achieved viral fame in the late 2010s, AI-generated images combining that image with various celebrities went viral in 2023, Know Your Meme reported.

Jennifer Garner

Jennifer Garner referenced her character Jenna Rink in the film “13 Going on 30,” which has become a popular costume among TikTok users in recent years. In the caption of her Instagram post, she celebrated the film's 20th anniversary, which happened earlier this year.

Kerry Washington, Scott Foley and Tony Goldwyn

It was a “Scandal” reunion for Kerry Washington, Scott Foley and Tony Goldwyn, who dressed up as another popular pop culture love triangle from this year's film “Challengers.”

Washington, who posted the picture on Instagram, dresses up as Zendaya's Tashi, a tennis champion turned coach, while Goldwyn dresses up as Art (her tennis champion husband) and Foley as Patrick (her ex, a humble tennis player who used to be a disguised partner of Art).

Paris Hilton

Paris Hilton wore a black bob to imitate Mia Wallace, Uma Thurman's character in Pulp Fiction. She recreated the film poster on Instagram to widespread praise.

Tyla

Singer Tyla traveled back to the Stone Age for her Halloween costume. Based on Halle Berry's look in “The Flintstones,” she gave a modern interpretation of prehistoric times.

Hello Leray

Rapper and singer Coi Leray continued the trend of dressing up as the popular Berry character, but opted for the role of Catwoman from the 2004 film of the same name.

Halle Bailey

Halle Bailey also channeled her inner Berry by dressing up as an actress in the James Bond film Die Another Day. Bailey called this year's holiday “Halleween.”

Chloe Bailey

Chloe Bailey dressed as classic cartoon siren Jessica Rabbit from “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?” – which she previously said represents her inner personality.

Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco

The actress, singer and entrepreneur and her boyfriend, a Grammy-winning music producer, traveled to Wonderland and dressed up as Alice and the Mad Hatter.

Selena Gomez referenced a quote from the book in her Instagram post.
