The Detroit Tigers regional television network is getting an exciting rebrand

Things are looking bright on the field for the Detroit Tigers, as many of their young talents are considered future cornerstones of this franchise after making their major league debuts and extended playing time.

It's well-documented how things took a turn for the better during this campaign after the front office gave away several veteran assets at the trade deadline and embraced a youth movement.

While they thought they were still a few years away from truly competing, this group was in top form and by Game 5 of the ALDS was one win away from fighting for a chance at a trip to the World Series.

But as rosy as things may look on the field for the Tigers, there were some questions about things off the field.

One of the most important was what would happen to their regional network, Bally Sports.

Diamond Sports Group, the owner of Bally Sports, filed for bankruptcy in March 2023, leading to some questions about who would broadcast games in Detroit going forward.

This not only affected the Tigers, but also the Detroit Red Wings and Detroit Pistons.

Revenue was at the forefront of this concern, particularly when it was announced that Bally Sports was to be liquidated after the 2024 season and that they would be giving up the rights to broadcast Tigers games going forward.

However, Detroit received some good news regarding the future of its regional sports network when it was announced that Bally Sports would be renamed “FanDuel Sports Network.”

“Partnering with Diamond provides us with the opportunity to place the FanDuel brand at the intersection of the nation's largest group of regional sports networks. A large cohort of FanDuel customers are loyal RSN viewers and this agreement allows us to further solidify the FanDuel brand among sports fans and provides a unique means of rewarding our users,” FanDuel sports president Mike Raffensperger said in a statement Explanation.

However, there are still some things the Tigers need to sort out.

According to Andrew Birkle of The Detroit Free Press, There's a chance the franchise could still look for another regional broadcast partner for the 2025 season and beyond.

“There has been no word on what the Tigers plan to do since the news broke, and whether they will appear on FanDuel Sports Network is unclear at this time,” he reports.

This is something to keep in mind, but at least FanDuel is in a much better financial situation than Bally Sports and Diamond Sports Group. So if they decide to continue this partnership and broadcast with FanDuel Sports Network, they likely won't run into these issues again.
