CORPUS CHRISTI, Tx – Dia de Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is an annual celebration originating in Mexico that falls on November 1st and 2nd.

Dia de Muertos celebrates life and death, and families build ofrendas, or altars, dedicated to deceased family members. It is believed that their spirits return to the world of the living to be reunited with their loved ones.

Here in the Coastal Bend, the Corpus Christi Dia De Los Muertos Street Festival is celebrating its 17th year and has become one of the region's most popular events.

“The goal of the event is to celebrate and honor the rich cultural heritage of Mexico and South Texas, educate and unite our community, attract tourists and residents to downtown CC, and promote our city,” organizers said Dia de los Muertos.

The Dia de los Muertos Festival has been bringing life, music and culture to downtown since 2008 – and this year it's bigger and better than ever.

The 2024 Dia de los Muertos Festival will take place on Saturday, October 26, from 3:00 p.m. to 12:00 p.m. in downtown Corpus Christi.

Three stages feature live entertainment including Latin rock and pop music, mariachis, ballet folklorico, Mexican folk dance, Tejano, cumbia, salsa, cultural dancers, youth artists, local DJs and regional emerging bands.

The event also includes a youth art exhibit, children's activities, a kiln exhibit in the former Ward Building at the corner of Chaparral and Peoples St., an Extravagancia de Piñatas, a lowrider car show, various demonstrations and numerous vendors.

FREE Park-N-Ride

RTA is offering a free Park-N-Ride from 2:30 p.m. to 12:30 p.m.:
1. From the City Hall and District Court parking lots, take the bus on Leopard St.

Where to park

We encourage participants to use the RTA's free Park-N-Ride from City Hall, the District Courthouse or TAMUCC's Sandollar parking lot. Another option is to use a ride service like Uber or Lyft.
Several adjacent streets are no-parking zones during the festival. Before parking, be sure to look for traffic cones with small “No Parking” signs. Sometimes they are difficult to recognize. Paid parking spaces are available in several areas of the city center.
