The disturbance in the Atlantic could become Tropical Depression 15 on Saturday

MIAMI – A potential tropical disturbance in the eastern Atlantic is at risk of developing into a tropical depression on Saturday, just three days after Hurricane Milton slammed into Florida, leaving more than a dozen dead, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The fault, currently designated Invest 94L by the NHC, lies west of the Cape Verde Islands. It brought tropical storm-force winds and heavy rain across the archipelago on Friday evening. It is now over open water and beginning a long journey west across the Atlantic.

The storm became slightly more organized Saturday morning, but overall still lacks sufficient organization of its thunderstorm activity to be considered a tropical depression or tropical storm, the NHC said.

Conditions remain favorable for some development Saturday – enough that the storm could be named Tropical Depression 15 or even Tropical Storm Nadine later in the day. However, chances for further development later Saturday are fading as the storm moves westward into less favorable atmospheric conditions.

At this point, the disruption is expected to last until at least the middle of the workweek and not progress further. After that, forecasters will keep a close eye on the storm as it begins to approach the eastern edges of the Caribbean.

“It will move on a westerly path that could bring it near the northeastern Caribbean islands in about a week,” said FOX Weather Hurricane Specialist Bryan Norcross. “The disturbance could be anything from a developing tropical disturbance to Tropical Storm Nadine to a chaotic increase in tropical moisture.”
