The embarrassing NBA TV segment ends with the retired star revealing the co-host's speech live on air

There was a deeply embarrassing segment on NBA television Friday night when former basketball star Sam Mitchell became upset that his on-air colleague made a joke about his salary.

Mitchell was asked by host Chris Miles about the fact that Warriors coach Steve Kerr did not receive a gold medal for leading the U.S. men's Olympic team to glory in Paris last summer.

“I guess it just shows you (in the) international (game) how they value coaches – not at all,” Mitchell laughed.

Miles then mocked Mitchell, a former Raptors head coach, saying, “I'm surprised coaches get a paycheck for this show.” “Maybe you should do this for free, my friend.”

It was clear Miles had touched a nerve when Mitchell said his salary was actually “pretty free” before accusing Miles of “showing off” his money and threatening to reveal the address of his house.

“I’m sorry, did you rent out your beach house down in Florida during the hurricane? …How about your townhouse in Buckhead, Georgia?”

Miles reacted in disbelief, but Mitchell continued, accusing him of confronting him and “screaming broke and hungry.”

“I know what you have and where you live, young man, so you have to stop,” he continued.

Miles, still with a sheepish grin on his face, accused Mitchell of being a “snitch” before Mitchell said he was actually a “truth teller.”

“You need to stop messing with me on national television,” he continued. “…Do I have to reveal the address? Because you're not home right now.'

After nearly 90 seconds of the bizarre interaction, Miles finally moved Mitchell to another topic as they discussed the Blazers-Clippers preseason game in Seattle.

But they weren't quite finished yet. Minutes later, in another segment, Mitchell actually revealed Miles' address in Destin, Florida.

“Have you installed the pool yet?” asked Mitchell.

Miles, who appeared at the NHL's Stanley Cup in April 2023, is an on-air host for NBA TV

Mitchell told Miles to “stop messing with me on national television” after his initial comment.

Naturally, fans were pretty stunned by the incident as it spread online.

“Damn, that was personal!” said one.

“Don't joke about a man and his money.” “This is probably (not) the first time either,” another added.

“The young guy asked for it,” a third added.

Mitchell played 13 years in the NBA, primarily with the Minnesota Timberwolves, where he concluded his career in the 2001-02 season.

Over the course of his career, he averaged 8.7 points and 3.7 rebounds per contest.

Mitchell, now 61, later served as an assistant coach with the Bucks, Nets, Timberwolves and Grizzlies, which was his last coaching stint in 2018-19.

He was the Raptors' head coach from 2004 to 2008 and was also Minnesota's interim coach from 2015 to 2016.
