GEARY, Okla. — In a sudden uproar, the entire police department and two city council members in Geary resigned on the same day. KOCO reported.

The police chief and the entire force handed in their badges on October 31 and announced their departure on social media. Former Supervisor Alicia Ford thanked the city for its support and urged residents to become more actively involved in local government. No specific reasons for the resignation were given.

“It is with great sadness that I and the rest of the Geary Police officers will no longer serve this community,” Ford said. “This decision was very difficult for me, but for me and the other officers it was the right decision.”

According to the report, the former chief announced that the interim police chief had been hired by the City Council to conduct an audit of the police department.

The reorganization also extended to the City Council, where members Rocky Coleman and Kristy Miller also resigned. In his resignation letter, Coleman cited differences in values in the city's direction and condemned what he saw as the influence of personal agendas on public service, the report said.

Residents expressed great concern about the situation.

“We don’t have much of a city left,” one resident told KOCO, while another called on city leaders to immediately address the underlying problems.

Meanwhile, the Blaine and Canadian County sheriff's offices are assisting with public safety, the report said. The city has not clarified the reason for the resignations, but has assured residents that a temporary police chief will be appointed to lead the department during the transition.
