The Guardians know their toughest test lies ahead after completing ALDS Game 4

David Fry drove in three runs, including a two-run home run in the seventh inning that gave the Guardians the lead and helped force a deciding Game 5 of the American League Division Series at 8:08 p.m. Saturday at Progressive Field

The reward is a rematch against Tigers left-hander Tarik Skubal, who was brilliant in Game 2, pitching seven scoreless innings, striking out eight innings and allowing just three hits. Fry said he expects the Guardians to have a good game plan against the Cy Young Award frontrunner.

“He had a heck of a season,” Fry said. “He was really good and threw well the other day. And we have to be ready to go, but it will be fun and Cleveland will be loud.”

When asked about playing against Skubal again, José Ramírez said he expects Cleveland to compete.

“I think you could ask him the same question: 'How will it feel going against our lineup?' too,” Ramírez said through Guardians interpreter Agustin Rivero. “We have faced him countless times in the past. We got good results, they got good results. It will be a competition. And I trust my guys to go after it and do our best.”

The penultimate duel on Thursday offered a bit of everything on both sides. Steven Kwan pitched another three-hit game. Zach McKinstry and Wenceel Perez came through with big hits and scored runs for Detroit. Ramírez hit his third career postseason home run. Fry even followed his two-run blast with an RBI sacrifice squeeze bunt in the ninth inning.

“That’s what every baseball fan wants to see — a back-and-forth game,” Kwan said. “Yeah, that was a good ball game.”

Kwan said Cleveland's goal is to play for the World Series. The club cannot afford to suffer a defeat like Wednesday's decisive loss in Game 3.

“We’re in it for the long haul,” Kwan said. “We have some really good vets there. They will keep us going and keep us going.”

Tanner Bibee, the pitcher for Game 4, said he knows Progressive Field will be loud on Saturday.

“I know they're going to do it, they're going to let it rip and they're going to be loud,” Bibee said. “I mean, we're going to need them. It will be a fun game.”

Hedges said he can't wait to see how the Guardians' fans develop.

“They’ll be there early and cheering us on loudly,” Hedges said. “Cleveland is as good as it gets in the playoffs, so we’re excited to go there and then win this division series and move on.”
