The Guardians OF Lane Thomas have just electrified all of Cleveland

CLEVELAND – If you were in downtown Cleveland and heard the ground shaking or a deafening roar through the streets just before 3 p.m. Saturday, have no fear, it was just the Lane Thomas effect.

The Cleveland Guardians were down 1-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning in the middle of Game 5 of the American League Division Series against the Detroit Tigers.

The inning began with a single by Andrés Giménez. After one out, the Guardians began to load the bases with a single by Steven Kwan followed by a base knock by David Fry.

The bases were loaded and Guardians third baseman José Ramírez was ready to bat. With Tigers ace Tarik Skubal on the mound, Ramírez was hit by a pitch, leading to a run and tying the game 1-1.

With the bases still loaded, outfielder Lane Thomas approached the plate.

Thomas had pitched for Cleveland in the first game of the series a week earlier. His three-run home run in the first inning increased the score to 5-0, with Cleveland winning 7-0.

On Saturday, with the series on the line, Thomas outdid himself.

Thomas swung on the first pitch. The crack of the bat was quickly drowned out by the electrifying cheers of the crowd at Progressive Field as the ball rocketed 396 feet into left center field.

A grand slam from ALDS Game 5.

The Guardians fans roared, fireworks blared in the background, and Thomas followed his three teammates as they trotted around the bases. Thomas was greeted at home plate with hugs and pats on the back from his teammates as the Guardians took a 5-1 lead over the Tigers.

Thomas continued his day with an RBI later in the game to give the Guardians a 6-3 lead.

The Guardians will look to maintain their lead and advance to the American League Championship Series with a win on Saturday.
