The Kindle Paperwhite Kids is just 5 on Prime Day in October

As expected, Amazon is offering some great discounts on its own devices as part of its Prime Day event in October – including e-readers like the note-taking Kindle Scribe, which is down to $254.99 ($85 off) at Amazon. The truly standout Kindle offering, however, is the Kindle Paperwhite Kids. Normally $169.99, it's currently down to $114.99 ($55 off) at Amazon, which is $5 off its previous best price.

If you want a Kindle Paperwhite without ads, you'll typically have to pay $169.99 for the privilege. Luckily, however, the Kindle Paperwhite Kids offers a way around this, making it a great e-reader for the whole family. Although it's marketed towards kids, the kid-friendly device has the same features we loved on the standard 2021 Kindle Paperwhite – but without the annoying lockscreen ads. That means it has a sharp 6.8-inch display and IPX8 water resistance, so you can read even in the bath. It also features months of battery life and a temperature-adjustable backlight for more comfortable reading at night.

However, unlike the standard Paperwhite, the kid-friendly model also comes with some additional benefits that you would normally have to pay extra for, making it even better value for money at this price. The Kids model offers a choice of three cases, a two-year warranty and one year of Amazon Kids Plus, giving you access to thousands of digital books and games designed specifically for children. Sure, there are advanced parental controls, but you can always turn them off if you want to binge a horror classic or whatever Stephen King recently released in honor of the spooky season.
