The Last Of Us fans were horrified when fungus-infected spiders were discovered in Scotland

It happens, we all become zombie-like creatures controlled by a fungus, just like in The Last of Us.

An episode of the nature documentary from 2008 Planet Earth featured a horrific fungus that turned creatures like ants into mindless zombies and inspired the Naughty Dog series The Last of Us. Seriously, if you've never seen this episode, you should; it's really scary.

Luckily, this fungus cannot control humans due to our immune systems and of course higher indoor temperatures, so we don't have to worry, at least for now. Regardless, it doesn't make the scenario any less frightening, which is one of the reasons The Last of Us concept has proven so successful on PlayStation and the HBO TV series.

The famous one Planet Earth The episode was filmed in a South American rainforest, but now a version of the fungus has made its way to Scotland in the UK. Yes, that's right, we're all doomed!

As reported by IGN (via The Times), the Gibellula mushroom, similar to the one in the Planet Earth Follow, takes over its host with spores that grow in the body. Fans of The Last of Us also know that spores can infect people.

The good thing about this wonderful fungus is that it cannot infect humans either. So what can it infect, I hear you ask? It infects spiders, damn spiders!

Now I have an image of zombie spiders in my head. Could something really be worse and why did it have to be spiders? Honestly, I can't imagine anything more terrible.
