The new “Wicked” movie poster doesn’t enchant the internet

There are few musical theater posters more iconic than the original 2008 West End design for Wicked. The famous “Whisper” design is instantly recognizable, and many wondered when the 2024 film would finally tip its hat to the original. Now the time has finally come – but the lackluster performance hasn't exactly enchanted fans.

Featuring Arianna Grande's Glinda whispering in the ear of green-skinned Elphaba, played by Cynthio Erivo. But from the obvious photoshopping to the lack of lipstick grin, the design is getting roasted online. One of the best print ads, that's not it.

“The subtle grin is the most iconic part of the poster, what a downgrade,” one X user commented, while another added: “Would have been too hard to give her red lipstick, pull the hat over her eyes and her “Part of the problem is that it's a composite. The lighting isn't real. They're not actually in the same room. It's scary,” claims another. And even photo editing -Apps join in. “The problem has been fixed, I hope this helps,” Picsart responds with an edited version of the poster, which, yes, shows grinning red lips.
