'The Office' star Jenna Fischer reveals which celebrity reacted 'salty' to her cancer news

Jenna Fischer has revealed her celebrity friend and fellow actress Christina Applegate had a “salty” reaction to her cancer diagnosis.

“The Office” alum, who played Pam Beesly on the hit NBC sitcom, announced earlier this month that she was diagnosed with breast cancer last year.

During her appearance on the “Today” show, Fischer said she received her diagnosis in October 2023. Her husband, Lee Kirk, was the first person she told about the news.

One of the first friends she wanted to share news of her health issues with was Applegate, with whom she starred in the 2011 film Hall Pass.

“I called her and she answered the phone and said, 'Which one is this?' And I said, 'It's breast cancer.' And she said, 'I fucking knew it.'”

“She’s salty. This is salty language. I love her for that,” Fischer said of Applegate, who lives with multiple sclerosis.

“After completing surgery, chemotherapy and radiation, I am now cancer free,” she wrote.

However, the road to recovery was not always smooth.

Fischer told fans that she had a lumpectomy in January to remove the tumor, which luckily didn't spread because doctors caught it early. Due to the “aggressive nature” of her cancer, the star required chemotherapy and radiation.

She underwent 12 rounds of weekly chemotherapy starting in February and began her three weeks of radiation in June. Fischer was also treated with infusions of two other medications.

“I'm happy to say I'm feeling great,” she shared in an Instagram post.

“I lost my hair during chemotherapy, but thanks to some amazing wigs and hats with hair (which my family affectionately called Wigats), I was able to wait until now to reveal everything that happened to me,” Fisher continued, adding adding: “I am making this announcement for several reasons.”

“Firstly, I’m willing to give up the wigs. Second, to ask you to get your annual mammograms. You can also ask your doctor to calculate your breast cancer risk assessment score and have any additional tests necessary. I’m serious, call your doctor immediately,” she said.

Fischer also gave a special thank you to her former “The Office” co-star Angela Kinsey and her husband Joshua Snyder.

Fischer has been married to her husband, director Lee Kirk, since 2010. The couple has two children: son Weston Lee and daughter Harper Marie.
