“The Office's Jenna Fischer Secretly Battled Breast Cancer and Is Now 'Cancer Free'

Actress Jenna Fischer celebrated a major health milestone on Tuesday, announcing that she is “cancer free” nearly a year after receiving a breast cancer diagnosis.

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, “The Office” star shared her journey from diagnosis to recovery in a series of posts on Instagram.

“I never thought I would make an announcement like this, but here we are,” she wrote on social media. “Last December I was diagnosed with stage 1 triple positive breast cancer. After completing surgery, chemotherapy and radiation, I am now cancer free.”

Fischer shared a series of slides detailing her experience, starting in October 2023, when she posted a photo on Instagram “preparing for my routine mammogram, with a joking reminder of it, à la Michael Scott.” 'to watch the ticking bags of time'.”

The mammogram results were inconclusive, and her doctor ordered a breast ultrasound, which found something on her left breast, she wrote. A biopsy was then ordered and on December 1, 2023, Fischer received her diagnosis.

“Triple-positive breast cancer is an aggressive form of breast cancer but also responds well to treatment,” Fischer wrote. “In January I had to undergo a lumpectomy to remove the tumor. Luckily, my cancer was caught early and had not spread to my lymph nodes or the rest of my body. However, due to the aggressive nature of the triple-positive cancer, it still required chemotherapy and radiation to ensure it didn't come back.

During chemotherapy, Fischer admitted that she lost her hair, but “thanks to some amazing wigs and hats with hair (which my family affectionately called wigats), I was able to wait until now to reveal everything that happened to me.” wrote.

“It takes a village to beat cancer, and I had an amazing village,” she noted. “Until this happened, I don’t think I really knew the generosity and kindness that can pass from one person to another. It all started with a team of doctors and nurses. All angels.”

She thanked her friends, family, children and husband Lee for their support throughout treatment. “I am pleased to say I recently had a re-evaluation and the treatments have worked. I am cancer free. I will continue to receive treatment and monitoring to ensure it stays that way.”

Jennifer Garner sent Fischer congratulations on Instagram, writing, “I'm so grateful to know you're on the other side and cancer-free!” Ellie Kemper echoed similar sentiments: “We love you, Jenna. Thanks for sharing and for the inspiration.”
