The owner of the Seattle Mariners speaks out about the firing of former manager Scott Servais

With the MLB playoffs in full swing this weekend, the Seattle Mariners are sitting at home. It is the second year in a row that Seattle has not made the postseason, missing it by 1.0 games after going 85-77 in the regular season.

With the M's now in offseason mode, the organization has several questions to answer. Namely, the M's need to figure out how to improve the offense, likely with a modest offseason budget. They also need to figure out who the hitting coach will be, as Edgar Martinez is expected to only have a part-time position in 2025.

Team co-owner John Stanton answered some of those questions in an in-depth interview with MLB.com's Daniel Kramer this week. Additionally, he also spoke about the firing of manager Scott Servais, who was fired at the end of August.

“I really like Scott, and that’s the present tense, not the past tense,” Stanton said. “I think Scott is a great person and I think he's done some great things for this franchise and he'll always be considered a very, very important part of Mariner history.”

Stanton also expressed regret that Servais learned of his firing before the organization could actually tell him. Stanton says he doesn't know who leaked the information, but he trusts the people in the decision-making inner circle.

He also said that he trusts Jerry Dipoto's judgment and believes that letting Servais go was the right decision.

Servais is the second most successful manager in team history. He led the Mariners to the playoffs in 2022.
